September 2019: monthly update

In September, I got a promotion. It came as a surprise. How did my portfolio do? How much money did I spend?

Promotion

Got quite the big promotion in September and ended up the boss of many of my peers, which I have to navigate carefully. My salary will only be reviewed early next year, so I cannot say yet what the impact it will have financially. I feel quite well prepared and ready, so it does not stress me at the moment. The company is struggling, so this was completely unexpected.

Notable spending was travel with a lot of air tickets and hotels, for family meetings and an upcoming holiday. Utilities were high, because of the semi-annual water bill. Oh man.

Had to buy some clothes, as I got feedback for dressing too casually at work. Now that I am supposed to be in the leadership team, I am supposed to dress more formally. I find this completely silly, as I see no customers ever and would rather wear jeans and let my team do the same.

Average spending for this year is still below last year, but this is only a small plus:

Outlook

Autumn has started in earnest. In my current European home this means raining all day long and the sun setting early. Have to keep the energy up!

My company is struggling and it seems like tough times ahead.
